Conclusion: British Victory

On July 9, around noontime, a force of several hundred Tories and Indians, commanded by John Doxtader, entered the settlement of Currytown. Currytown was located on the Canajoharie River. When Doxtader's force entered the settlement, most of the inhabitants were out in the fields. When they noticed Doxtader, they fled and hid in the nearby woods or in their "fort".
Doxtader ordered his force to destroy the settlement. They burned down 12 homes, leaving the "fort" and a Tory house unharmed. They also killed and captured a number of inhabitants. After this, Doxtader and his force left the settlement. In retalliation for this destruction, Col. Marinus Willet and a large force was sent and met Doxtader's force the next day at the Battle of Sharon Springs Swamp.
