Conclusion: British Victory

On January 3, Maj. William Brereton and his British force arrived at Brabant Plantation. He rested his men and posted some troops on the Videau's Bridge to guard the approaches leading to the plantation. Col. Richard Richardson, Jr. led his Patriot force to the area and had his men circle around the bridge. They would come at the bridge from the north.
Brereton went out on a reconnaissance alone, but ran into the British. He ran back to his camp. The Patriots charged at the British, sending them fleeing.
At the bridge, the British fired a volley into the disorganized Patriots and then charged into them. This caused the Patriots to flee. The British pursued the Patriots in a 6-mile running battle before they turned back to their main force.
