Conclusion: British Victory

On February 24, Col. Benjamin Thompson and his Loyalist force planned an attack on the Patriot forces. He had put together a cavalry force that consisted of all the mounted units in Charlestown. At Durant's Plantation, Col. Archibald McDonald was put in charge of the Patriot force.
During the morning, Thompson set out from Daniel's Island and rode towards the Patriot camp. At Wambaw's Bridge, the two sides clashed with each other. The Patriots soon fled and raced across the bridge. The weight of the men and wagons caused the bridge to collapse. The men who did not flee hid in the thickets. The majority of the Patriots managed to flee to the Tydiman Plantation.
