On November 14, in the morning, Col. Count Thaddeus Kosciuszko and his Patriots engaged the British escort of a woodcutting party on James Island. British reinforcements were quickly brought up and greatly outnumbered the Patriots.
After an intense fight, the Patriots withdrew from their position. Capt. William Wilmont was the last Continental soldier killed in the Carolinas.
